Richard Burton

Richard Burton is a British London based artist specializing in oil paintings. Burton earned his BA in Fine Art from Slade School of Fine Art and his MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art. His work has been exhibited throughout the UK, Amsterdam and New Y ork. Burton enables his viewers to connect with his works through relatable scenes of daily life that usually involve only a minimal number of figures. Though, simultaneously, he uses colors that are extraneous to the scene and aloof expressions on the figures’ faces that create a distance from the viewer. The opposing feelings that Burton’s works raise in the audience is what makes them so powerful. Burton is very much fascinated with car seats and upholstery in his works as well, as they both signal comfort and security to whoever takes their seat. He sees the two as reflective on the human being as both are hard on the inside and soft on the outside.
