Define your art practise in three words:
Describe a real-life situation that inspired you:
Strangely, I got very inspired by the current global confinement. When we live in a terrible crisis like this, what really matters in our lives becomes suddenly obvious : solidarity, ecology, family, culture,… Being part of an entire society in stand by dreaming about ‘the world after’ inspired me in many of my paintings.
What do you like or dislike about your work?
Being a painter is my dream job, so I pretty much like everything about it! What I might love the most about my work is that feeling in the morning when I have a precise idea about what I want to paint and the way every tiny issue disappears as soon as I start to paint. This is just priceless. What I dislike the most is something I discovered very recently. It is this constant desire to create again and again that can be exhausting. Ideas keep coming every day, and I don’t even have the time to enjoy a freshly finished artwork that all my mind is about another one. This constant movement can sometimes be frustrating, but I think that I just have to get used to it!
If you could meet one living/non-living artist for a drink who would it be?
I would love to have a drink with Berthe Morisot. Her paintings have this peaceful melancholy that I really like. She always wore black dresses but painted with women around her in soft pastel colours – to fight the conventional life everybody around her wanted to impose on her. I have lots of admiration for women of the past who had the desire to paint in a men’s world.
Da Vinci or Picasso
Da Vinci. Everything he worked on became magical : architecture, painting, engineering… I would dream to ask him about one or two secrets from his paintings!
Book or Movie
Generally both. I’ve read a lot of French classical literature in the past. Now I read painters’ 3biographies or art history books. But I also watch movies during my painting breaks. I am a big fan of fantastic movies. I know Marvel, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings movies by heart… As soon as a hero has great superpowers, I’m in!
