An ominous and uninviting bed of roots twist and turn around each other in a tangle of dark purples and greys in the foreground. Contrasting against this is an area of bright greens and hints of yellow that provide a backdrop for two identical flowers that appear to be of the lily family. Their dark orange centres are rendered in minute scientific detail with each pod of pollen carefully outlined, while the lilac lip of the flower gently opens up to reveal the centre. They are placed on a horizontal axis as if we are looking at a mirror image. This central imagery of the tangled roots and the flowers are grouped together by an outline that exposes a further receded background of lyncean covered rocks that the viewer can just see at the edge of the canvas. Bukovcakova represents the complexity and wonder of the natural world that we know is struggling to survive in the face of our climatically challenged world.
