A fury of deep red seeps across the canvas in the form of an abstract flower, complete with small oblations mimicking eyes, brows and a nose that appears as if smoke billows out from within. The vulnerability and fragility of the natural world is being expressed here by Bukovcakova through this angry and delicate flower. The outline of the petals is rendered delicately, evoking the velvet touch of a flower like a rose, which heightens the emotional power of this image with its ability to appeal to several senses. This flower is abstracted into a natural object with feelings and a soul. The sharp blades of green grass in the foreground of the canvas appear spikey and unwelcoming, validating the anxiety and anger expressed by the central object. Bukovcakova strives to represent moments of ‘reassessment’ in a world filled with anxiety about the future.
