Artwork description

The painting ‘Hope For Happiness’ is inspired by the artist’s friend Feike who is an artist and a car lover. Recently an old Ferrari was found in the IJ canal in Amsterdam, and Feike plans to create a conceptual piece with the car. In this painting, Horowitz shows the happiness her friend feels as his concept around the car evolves. Finally, he succeeds and celebrates. The shape of the artist’s friend’s head resembles a blooming cactus, which symbolizes his previous struggles, which he eventually overcomes and is happy—the same way as the cactus blossoms.

Roza Horowitz

Roza Horowitz was born in Russia but moved to Holland, where she did her BA at the KABK. In 2017 she received an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art in London, where she now lives and works. The artist’s painting language is continuously developing and changing. At the Slade degree show, the artist experimented with different forms: mixed media, printmaking, and oil paint. After this, she focused on painting abstract compositions exploring themes of figuration, nature, and auto-biographical inspirations.  Her work is often full of metaphors and motifs from ancient and modern storytelling, dreams, memories, and the material world surrounding her. It’s often satirical or a commentary on our society.  Lately, she has been inspired by animals and their shapes.
