Artwork description

Several figures are found gathered around a table in a heavily pressured scene. The title is inspired by the symbolization of the hand that points forcefully to what appears to be a contract lying on a blue table, while the paper fades away behind the smoke of a burning cigarette leading the eye to yet a third figure that hides in the background, that symbolizes the hidden intentions of this potential "agreement." Although the main focus of the composition is designed to be around the objects that lie on the table, the secret gesture is revealed on the left figure, whose body language contrasts the rest of the scene with its opposing posture. An appealingly modern woman wearing bright colors is set, almost denying the assumed proposition, as she is being pushed by the unseen hand of the middle figure and eventually forced to be part of a supposed signing process. Her hands are big and uncomfortable as she is holding a glass of water with one, as the other puts pressure on the table. She is painted in the last moments of her decision to grab the pen lying on her rich side as she contemplates the right decision of the appearing consignment.

Kyveli Zoi

Born in Athens and having returned to live and work there now, Kyveli Zoi is a multidisciplinary artist and painter. After attending the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris and Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design in London, she completed her BFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York. With such a divergent background, her inspiration comes from this composition of Greece and the USA. She captures the struggles of those around her through a combination of depictions of traditional folklore and contemporary life. Addressing themes such as individuality, identity, humanity, and evolution, Kyveli is most interested in narratives that are revealed as she paints that lead her onto the next one. With ties to theatre and cinema within her artistic background, she likens the canvas to a stage where she can “unravel all the emotions and the idiosyncrasies that take place within my daily surroundings.”
