Artwork description

In this hybrid pop art/surrealist style image, a chunk of watermelon hovers in the air in the center of the canvas, set against the sand and grey coloured backdrop. Two white dots appear in the sky, creating a smiley face with the shape of the watermelon. The style of the watermelon is almost like an emoji, bright and fun, bringing a sense of playfulness to an otherwise serious colour painting.

Fortune Hunter

Born in Germany and raised in Bolivia, Fortune Hunter is a self-taught artist with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Exhibiting works in southern and central Germany, his work is currently focused on the human condition in relation to pop culture and the natural world through the lens of the subconscious. Describing his method of production, the artist often makes a reference drawing before creating the final painting. During the process, he may use cutouts to create certain patterns and then create an underpainting using acrylic paint. On top of this, he adds oil paint to create the finished color and texture. Inspired by everyday items that appeal to the human subconscious on a deeper level, Fortune Hunter’s works have, as described by the artist, a funny, surreal, and hidden quality that makes them unique.
